Paddock boots are used for English horseback riding. Adults use them for everyday wear and children wear paddocks for horse shows as well as schooling.  Children’s paddock boots have a lace or zip up the front, 3/4” heel and a capped toe on the boot.  The boot is only ankle high.  Usually made from leather, paddocks are available in black or brown.  The lace up the front of the paddock boot provides support for your ankle. Some Children’s paddocks are manufactured from synthetic leather.  These kid’s paddock boots are considerably less expensive than the leather paddocks.  They are perfect for the beginner rider.  They also hold up well if you wash your pony after riding. 

Paddock boots may be worn with half chaps.  The snug fitting ankle on the boot fit neatly under any kind of half or full chaps.  Many child equestrians wear paddock boots everyday, both on and off of their horses.  The toe box provides small horseback riders protection when they are stepped on.  The heel is there to make sure their foot does not slip through the stirrup irons.

To know if your child’s paddock boots fit:

1. Zipper Paddock boots will slip in the heel. That is okay.
2. Push their foot all they way up into the toe and see if you can fit at least one finger behind their heel.
3. Wear the exact socks they will ride in to try on their Paddock boots. Bed sure they are tall enough to prevent ankle rubs.
4. Do not get them too big, Their foot will be too far into the stirrups when they ride.

To care for your kid’s paddock boots:

1. Saddle soap them off when they get dirty.
2. If they get wet, allow then to dry away from direct heat.
3. Polish them to protect the leather from drying out.
