Eventing is a riding competition that tests a rider and their horse over cross country, in show jumping and dressage. Usually these events last three days to get all of the competitions in but they can be shorter. Eventing is broken down into the following levels, Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced.

The apparel for each phase varies. Dressage and Show jumping require the traditional and conservative turn out of each discipline. The Cross Country is where a rider can show more of their personality with colors and personalized clothing.

For Dressage levels up to preliminary have less restrictive rules that the higher levels. Riders must wear a dark coat, navy, black or a dark tweed, with a white shirt and stock tie with a pin. White breeches are the most correct however at these levels other light beige colors are acceptable.  A classics approved black riding helmet is seen the most. Boots must be tall but can be in field or tall style. Gloves as in all levels of riding give a polished look, but are not required. A dressage saddle is also necessary with a white bad and classic bridle.

Show Jumping is similar to dressage but an approved riding helmet with a harness must be worn at all levels. A show jacket is required in black, dark or dark tweed jacket and breeches must be a light color, normally white or beige. You also need to wear a hunting stock with a pin or a collar and tie.  Again black gloves protect the hand and give a polished look. A jumping saddle is required with a white pad and classic leather bridles.

In Cross Country safety is more important that the traditional riding apparel. All riders must wear a protective vet and an approved riding helmet, a medical arm band. Any color breeches and shirt may be worn although shirts must have sleeves and a stock is not required. Black or Brown tall or field boots can be worn and no jacket is required. This is the event where riders can show off their crazy colors! Your horse may also match you with his saddle pad and wraps.

There are many restrictions in Eventing biting, whips and safety. Please call our staff for further information and make sure you are ready and dressed to impress before you get to the event!
